BP wants to charge electric car batteries in five minutes!
Portugal
BP is keen to maintain its position in the automotive power supply market in the future when all cars become electric. And one of the ways the company intends to do is to keep its fuel stations, but by filling a battery of an electric car with the same speed, in about five minutes.

To do this, BP will make a $ 20 million investment by funding the new lithium-ion batteries from StoreDot, an Israeli company that is developing a mobile phone battery that recharges in just a few minutes. StoreDot had already shown its new battery for mobile phones last year and is planning to put them on the market in early 2019. Since the lithium-ion technology is the same, partnership with BP allows the company to open the door to enter the car market. On BP's side, the British company intends to continue to supply power to automobiles, regardless of the type of motor of its customers' cars. By connecting to StoreDot, you will be able to implement high capacity charging stations that are compatible with StoreDot battery technology. If these technologies can be used to replace the pumps at the current gas pumps, this means that it will not be necessary to take up so much urban infrastructure space to load vehicles, it will be possible to continue to "go to the pump".

If mobile-charging batteries reach the market within a year, it should not be too long for StoreDot and BP to show an example of how this technology will be used in a car. It remains to be seen whether they will meet the promise of fast charging, faced with the arrival of rival technology of solid state batteries.
