Carlos Vasconcelos: «More than talking about Shipping 4.0, we should talk about Logistics 4.0»
Portugal
Still the echoes of the successful event 'Shipping 4.0 - The Sea of ??Tomorrow': Carlos Vasconcelos, another of the distinguished speakers at the conference, held at ENIHH's facilities in May, reflected on the evolution of the digital landscape in the context of Transport and Logistics.

"Where is the future of Shipping 4.0?" He began by asking the experienced expert, who emphasized the fact that he spoke only in his name. In a reflexive speech, in which he seeks to analyze the foundations and principles of this fourth industrial revolution, Carlos Vasconcelos emphasized the transversal progress of digitization: from the 'consummate reality' of the 'fully automated Chinese terminal of Qingdao' to 'the challenges of autonomous ships 'Trains without a train' and 'automatic platooning'.

'Sooner or later, the entire end-to-end production process will be fully automated,' he said, emphasizing 'a much faster evolution than originally envisaged' and predicting continued consolidation in the shipping, caused by a "colossal investment": for Carlos Vasconcelos, there will be "less players" and one will therefore have "a greater lack of differentiation of the product".

According to Carlos Vasconcelos, "the great revolution of Shipping 4.0 will really focus not on the transport of goods, but on the relations of production and also on software", also inferring that "the tendency is the gradual elimination of intermediaries and between production and consumption. In its analysis, it also described the 'redefinition of the logistics process' towards supply chain restructuring 'in the light of consumer behavior', the hitch of developments in Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, global interactivity and dematerialization.
