Containers: Port of Setúbal (+0,7) was the only one to escape the negative variation in TEU volume
Portugal
The data presented by AMT regarding the movement of goods in mainland ports - a matter already mentioned by Revista Cargo - shows that container processing was "very much influenced by the sharp drop in transhipment operations in the port of Sines (- 26.3%) ", which led to" an evolution of -21.6% in the volume of TEU there ", explained the AMT. In terms of TEU, denotes the AMT, Setúbal was the only one to escape the negative variation.

'Overall breakdown in TEU' is the result of the combination of -24.6% in transhipment and -2.5% in operations with the hinterland '
The AMT further explains in this context that in order to better understand the effect of the slowing of the transhipment on the global movement of containers, "it is underlined that the overall decline in TEU referred to above results from the conjunction of -24.6% in transhipment operations and -2.5% in operations with the hinterland, in which Sines registered a positive growth of + 2.1%.

The 'generalized decrease in most ports' was, however, contradicted by a single port: that of Setubal. The sadino port was the only one to register a positive variation between January and April 2018 in terms of TEU, with a gain of 0.7% and a total of 49 488 TEU. In the end, the AMT reveals that 'the combined effect of all these variations is a reduction of -14.2% of the TEU volume' to 926 386 TEU.
