France: traffic violations.
Portugal
Drivers who commit road infringements in the Member States of the European Union (Law no.
46/2017 of 5 July and Law
no. 49/2017 of 10 July) are now notified by means of an electronic platform cross-border exchange of information.
The exchange of data between authorities in different countries for the cross-border exchange of information on road traffic-related traffic offenses is done through the European Vehicle and Driving Information System (EUCARIS), which enables the owner to be identified and notified of the vehicle registered in an EU country, where it has committed road violations in another Member State.
Since the French authorities are already part of the EUCARIS system, notifications of infringements committed by drivers of Portuguese-registered vehicles on French territory are sent to the company by post in the Portuguese language. In practice, and as an example, if a driver is caught by a speeding radar, the French authorities will notify the company which owns the vehicle in question. However, as an infringement committed by the driver, the company will have to identify the same, so that the latter will be notified later by the French authorities, in order to pay the fine.
We would also like to inform you that as of July 1, 2018, the maximum authorized speed in two-way lanes, without a central separator, where currently the maximum permitted speed is 90km / h, unless otherwise stated on the spot, will pass to be 80km / h. However, this measure does not affect heavy goods, since the maximum authorized speed for these types of vehicles and on these roadways (two directions without a central separator), unless otherwise indicated on the spot, was already 80 km / h.
The French entity responsible for the management of this type of infraction is ANTAI - "l'Agence Nationale du Traitement Automatisé des Infractions".
