The cost of both fuels at national gas stations was revised upwards: "gasoil and gasoline were two cents more expensive this dawn," said the source of the sector to the Economic Journal. The increases were seen both in the pumps of the main gas stations and in the hypermarkets, where "the increases are around 1.5 cents per liter", for both gas oil and gasoline.

 

It will be confirmed and will be the seventh consecutive week of increases for gasoline 95, which thus reaches the highest value of the last three years (July 2015). Already for diesel is the sixth week followed by gains, which will drive prices to the highest since January 2014. In this period, the price of gasoline rose seven cents, while that of gas oil was five cents more expensive, according to data from the General Directorate of Energy and Geology (DGEG). In the first week of January 2018, diesel was marketed at 1.330 euros per liter and petrol at 1.531 per liter, on average, show the same data. According to the DGEG, the average price of the liter of gasoline in Portugal currently costs 1,569 euros while that of diesel fuel costs 1,361 euros. Quotations may however vary at the filling stations, as the price set in the network also takes into account the level of competition, supply and demand in each market and the level of fixed costs of each station.

 

The latest Brussels report shows that, after taxes, the average price of 95 octane petrol practiced in Portugal is the fifth most expensive in the EU. On the other hand, diesel occupies the 10th position among the countries of the community space. The same data show that taxation is the factor that weighs most on fuel prices in Portugal. Among the 28 Member States, the average reference price for gasoline is around € 1,400 per liter, whereas 'diesel' costs € 1,297 per liter. Already in the euro zone, a liter of gasoline costs 1,440 euros and a liter of diesel fuel costs 1,296 euros.
