Leixões reaches best semester ever with 9,978,313 tons
Portugal
The period from January to June brought excellent news for the Port of Leixões: in the first six months of 2018, the port infrastructure reached "the best result ever in the movement of goods". A performance that "makes history in the closing of half-yearly indicators", APDL pointed out this afternoon.

Now let us turn to the figures: between January and June the northern port handled 9 978 313 tonnes of goods, which meant a year-on-year increase of 1.36%. Each month, APDL points out in a statement, "an average of 1 632 528 tonnes of cargo was circulated in Leixões".

"These indicators represent the work done to continue to affirm Leixões as the largest and best port in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula. Today, companies and shipowners see in Leixões a truly safe and competitive port, and this record is proof of this, "said the APDL - Ports Administration of the Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo.

When analyzing the numbers, what are the decisive segments for this excellent performance? The 'heavy contribution' to the historical result 'was the roll-on / roll-off traffic - load that embarks and disembarks on wheels, presenting a double digit increase (+ 11.41%)'.

Among the list of essential segments for this record are also containerized cargo (+ 3.67%) and liquid bulk (+ 1.59%). The APDL also reminded that last Monday "the semi-annual balance of the movement of passengers and cruises was known, registering respective growths of 37.70% and 15.56% over the same period of the previous year".
