Marques Mendes: Portugal to announce 500 million credit line to support exports to Angola
Portugal
The commentator announced that in OE 2019, the last of Mário Centeno, the deficit will be 0.2% (technically zero deficit). But the next finance minister is already going to catch the European economy in sharp deceleration. Luís Marques Mendes, in his weekly commentary on SIC, naturally commented on the State visit, which begins Monday, from the Portuguese prime minister to Angola.
"Portugal needs to intensify its economic relationship with Angola, to invest and to export," said the commentator who recalled that a few years ago Angola was the fourth destination of Portuguese exports and today is the seventh.
"In this visit the agreements that will naturally be concluded are: the agreement to avoid double taxation; a 500 million euro credit line will be announced to support Portuguese exports to Angola; the other important dossier that will be on the table is Angola's debt to Portuguese companies, "said Marques Mendes, who believes that this visit is mainly political.
Angola's debt to companies around 500 million euros is the most difficult dossier because of successive devaluations of the kwanza, the commentator said. TSF recently reported that this is a two-step process: first, the "recognition and certification" by the Angolan State of the amount of arrears; and then an agreement on the payment arrangements. Angola needs knowledge, investment and technology, and Portugal has the conditions to help that country from the perspective of the commentator.
