Mayors propose railway to connect Port of the border with Spain
Portugal
There are several inter-municipal communities that call for a new railway connection capable of crossing the entire northern region of Portugal, from the Port of Leixões to the border with Spain - this scenario was already proposed last Friday, in the context of the national plan investments. The proposal was signed on 14 June by the Inter-Municipal Community (CIM) Terras de Trás-os-Montes.

This proposal is the result of a concerted action between several entities and municipal organizations of the Northern region of the country: a region that requires to see this scenario integrated in the National Program of Territory Planning Policy (PNPOT), first hand, Lusa agency . One of the faces of this claim is Artur Nunes, president of CIM Terras de Trás-os-Montes. In his view, "there has been a disinvestment at rail level" in the north of the country.

'I think there must be a rip-off of the whole of the north through a rail network that connects us to central Europe, Spain, as well as an option for goods and transport, and for mobility between territories "He told the Lusa news agency.

"If we get this claim, we will certainly be richer because it is a way of attracting investment into the territory and attracting people," he added, noting that the claims also include creating more logistical bases for companies set in the region.
