The start of this week was marked by several questions about the new horizons of the ports, to which several experts tried to respond, live and proficient debate, held in the Port of Leixões. The initiative, integrated in the European project 'Docks The Future', sought answers to pressing questions that will define the mindset of the global maritime-port sector for years to come.
In what ways will the 'Port of the Future' operate? What challenges will you have to deal with, both in the operational field and in your relationship with cities and their communities? What opportunities will you bring to decarbonize the environment? To answer these questions, a group of international experts was present in the northern port during the days 29 and 30 of October. Under the 'Docks The Future' project, funded by the European Commission, this initiative, APDL revealed, 'aimed to define the concept of' Port of the Future 'over a time horizon of just over a decade (2030). On the table, the administration of the port went on to address issues such as "challenges related to simplification and digitization of processes, dredging, emission reductions, energy transition, electrification, smart grids, port-city interface and management of the use of renewable energy".
With several months of maturation and analysis, the idea of ??'Port of the Future' resulting from the reflection of the project "has been validated by more than 30 high-level international experts in various areas of the port area, such as the environment, information technology, the relations with the port cities, the infrastructures, the maritime policies and of transport ", informed the APDL. Experts include representatives from entities such as the European Federation of Private Port Operators (FEPORT), European Tecnology Plataforms, Inland Navigation Europe, the Port of Valencia Foundation, among others. The project is being implemented by a consortium led by Circle srl (Italy), the University of Genoa (Italy), the Institut für Seeverkehrswirtschaft und Logistik - ISL (Germany) and PortExpertise (Belgium). of a Portuguese entity, Magellan - Association for the Representation of Portuguese Interests Abroad.
