Ports with + 1.3% year-on-year growth in the second and third quarters, said the Minister for the Sea
Portugal
Yesterday, during the parliamentary hearing in the Committee on Agriculture and Sea, the Minister of the Sea addressed the evolution of cargo handling in Portuguese ports during 2018, after a record 2017. According to Ana Paula Vitorino, the movements "grew by 1.3% compared to 2017" for the second and third quarters.

This growth in these two quarters was boosted "by a growth of 4.9% in containerized cargo", said the leader of the pulp of the sea, who recalled that in the first three months of the year "a worrying drop" , which is largely explained by "non-controllable" factors, he recalled. The Minister of the Sea also recalled that "in Sines we had problems related to the stop of the Matosinhos refinery. Sines thus had an increase in cargo, "he explained. The focus of the intervention then turned to the infrastructural increment of the Alentejo port: in question, the expansion of Terminal XXI and the realization of the future Terminal Vasco da Gama.

"There are agreements of principle already established, such as the area and the type of intervention, the value of the investment and its counterparts are lacking," said Ana Paula Vitorino, referring to Terminal XXI, destined to the handling of containers. Regarding the Vasco da Gama Terminal, issues raised following the public consultation of the environmental impact study are being reviewed.
