Portugal and Spain undertake to strengthen ties to eliminate logistical frontiers
Portugal
The strengthening of the logistics areas of the Luso-Extremadura border was one of the most popular topics during the Luso-Spanish summit held last Wednesday in Valladolid.

The meeting resulted in the joint statement which signed in black and white the intention of both States to "strengthen cross-border logistics cooperation and specifically strengthen this cooperation in the logistic areas of the Luso-Extremadura region" with a view to "generating more synergies" between the two nations and to promote greater "competitiveness", quotes the Spanish newspaper 'El Vigia'. The document states that "it was decided to study the possibility of signing a special collaboration protocol that defines the necessary axes for the establishment and operation of a joint and shared structure for the management and planning of the logistics systems of Elvas-Campo Maior and Badajoz, made up of representatives of the Government of Spain, the Government of Portugal, the Junta de Extremadura and the municipalities of Elvas, Campo Maior and Badajoz.

The document further embodies the commitment of Portugal and Spain to 'coordinate their efforts in regulating and supervising', reinforcing the 'commitment to collaboration in the fight against fraud in order to protect the competitiveness and sustainable development of the sector in a context of fair competition '. The Joint Declaration also covers actions in the field of infrastructure, with particular emphasis on rail links.

In this context, the two States noted the satisfaction "for the beginning of the first works and for the competition for the main contracts of the section of Évora / Caia (border) and for the development of the section of Badajoz / Plasencia; by the beginning of the works that will allow the opening of the section of Covilhã / Guarda and the start of the electrification works of the section of Fuentes de Oñoro (border) / Salamanca; for the development of modernization and electrification works on the Nine / Viana do Castelo / Valença section, "cites the publication. The road was not left out either, and it is important to note the progress made towards the conclusion of the Vilar Formoso / Fuentes de Oñoro border, in view of the progress made in the construction of the A62 in the Spanish part and the signing of the works for the conclusion of the A52 in the Portuguese part '.
