Rates and taxes
Portugal
More than half of the fuel sales price in Portugal comes from fees and taxes, according to data from the European Commission.

Only the Petroleum Products Tax (ISP) represents 47 cents (38.6%) in the reference price of gas oil and 66 cents (45.9%) in gasoline, according to the National Entity for the Fuel Market ( ENMC)

According to data from the European Commission last week, the liter of diesel cost 1.35 euros in Portugal - the 10th most expensive among the 28 countries of the European Union - when the value before taxes and taxes was 0 , 62 euros. The 95 (best-selling) petrol cost an average of 1.56 euros per liter, whereas before VAT, the ISP, the contribution on the road sector and the additional carbon tax was 0.61 euros per liter. In 2016, the Government increased the ISP by six cents per liter to correct the loss of tax revenue resulting from the decline in international oil prices, and undertook to make a quarterly review of the value of the tax due to the variation in the base price of petroleum products, which led to small ISP reductions over the course of that year. However, in 2017, the revision of the value of the tax ceased to be made, despite variations in the price of oil.

According to the most recent budgetary implementation data published by the Directorate-General for the Budget, the State raised 803.2 million euros from ISP in the first quarter of this year, 2.4% more than the 784.1 million euros in the same quarter 2017. Last year, the ISP earned 3 364.4 million euros to the state coffers, 3.2% more than in 2016.
