RZD Logistics launches multimodal container service to connect China to Europe
Portugal
A new multimodal route from China to Europe through the Russian port of Bronka will be launched in the first quarter of 2019, combining rail and sea transport at the Russian port, which will be central to the materialization of this new intercontinental service.

The multimodal transport route will be developed by RZD Logistics, a subsidiary company of Russian Railways, to transport containers from China to northern European countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The new route will link China to Bronka via Mongolia and Russia via rail. After delivery of the cargoes at the Russian port, the containers will be loaded onto ships and delivered to the main ports in Northern and Western Europe, including Hamburg, Oslo, Helsinki, Rotterdam and Antwerp.

Travel time shall not exceed sixteen days. The Port of Bronka has a capacity of 500 thousand TEU per year, being equipped to move refrigerated containers. "We started working on this route and marketed the new service in April when we signed a cooperation agreement with the port of Bronka," said Viacheslav Valentik, CEO of RZD Logistics.

"Since then, we have developed all the details of the new service. Today, RZD Logistics is ready to launch the transport; we expect the first freight to be delivered in the first quarter of 2019, "Viacheslav Valentik said after a meeting with Chinese companies. "We have the support of European operators," he added: "The company DB Cargo has revealed that it is taking part in the project.
