State and companies invest for greener economy
Portugal
"Portugal is at the forefront of tackling climate change." The statement by Environment Minister José Matos Fernandes during the Lisbon Mobi Summit shows the country's efforts to halt the effects of global warming.

And the private sector are mobilizing to meet this objective and the summit organized by the Global Media Group, which includes Dinheiro Vivo, was the chosen stage to show some of these measures: the State has 720 million euros to electrify the public transport, private cars and fleets; the private sector, such as EDP and Efacec, have shown projects to encourage the use of emission-free solutions. Transport, "responsible for more than a quarter of the emissions", is the main area of ??attack in Government policies.

The government therefore has an investment plan of 720 million euros over the next five years which includes, for example, the purchase of 516 low emission buses; the financing, in 110 million euros, for the Lisbon metro to acquire 14 new triple electric units; the support of more than 55 million euros for CP to order 22 new regional trains; aid for the renewal of taxi drivers' cars; and incentives of € 2.25 million per year for individuals and businesses to buy electric cars.

Matos Fernandes recalled that Portugal was one of the first countries to ratify the Paris Agreement. In 2016, one of the most ambitious goals ever was set to stop the effects of global warming: to neutralize, from 2050, the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted into the atmosphere. "A true socio-economic transformation", in the words of the minister, because Portugal's emissions have to fall from 67.8 mega tons of CO2 to around 10 mega tons of CO2, which will have to be absorbed by the forest.
