Stevedores continue strike until January 1
Portugal
The stevedores' strike will continue until 1 January. The decision was taken yesterday in a plenary session of the SEAL, before the demonstration held in Lisbon.

In principle, there is still a strike at extra work (ie beyond normal working hours and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays), but the conditions under which stowage workers' standstill can occur at any time is aggravated. notice given by the SEAL. For example, the strike will happen whenever any worker - actual or possible - does additional work. The strike will also take place, according to the union, whenever workers are recruited after 1 July, or when workers in higher categories are put into lower-level jobs.

The total stoppage shall be in any of the ports covered during the first 72 hours after the entry into the area of ??port jurisdiction of any vessel operated in the ports of Caniçal or Praia da Vitória using non-port workers or contracted after the first pre- strike warning (July 26). The 24-hour strike is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the port of Figueira da Foz.

The stoppage of port workers began on 13 August to end on 10 September, but in the meantime it was extended until 8 October and now to 1 January. With every new warning, conditions are getting harder. In essence, the grounds invoked by the SEAL to justify the strike remain: anti-union practices in Leixões and Caniçal, violations of the CT in Figueira da Foz, the breach of the agreement reached in Lisbon.

The paralysis covers the ports of Leixões, Figueira da Foz, Lisbon, Setúbal, Sines, Caniçal, Ponta Delgada and Praia da Vitória. The port of the capital is by far the most affected by the representativeness of the SEAL among local port workers.
