Tolls on motorways are expected to increase by close to 1% by 2019
Portugal
INE anticipates that the annual inflation rate, excluding housing, in the Mainland will have been 0.98% in October, which will have the consequence of a rise in the same percentage of toll prices next year

Toll prices on motorways are expected to increase by close to 1% in January 2019, taking into account the estimate of the annual inflation rate, without housing, in October, released this Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). The formula that establishes how to increase the price of tolls in each year is provided for in Decree-Law no. 294/97 and establishes that the variation to be practiced in each year is based on the annual rate of inflation without housing in the Continent known until November 15, when the dealers must inform the Government of their price proposals.

In a quick estimate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published on Wednesday, INE forecasts that the annual inflation rate, excluding housing, in the Mainland will have been 0.98% in October, which should have the effect of rise in tolls in the same year. In 2018 motorway tolls increased 1.42%, after a rise of 0.84% ??in 2017 and 0.62% in 2016. The legislation currently in force also defines that toll rates should be updated in multiple values ??of five cents, which implies the rounding of the toll rates to the nearest five cents.

The final CPI data for the month of October will be published on November 13.
